Hi, my name is Rick Dixon, and I'm the owner of 11:11 Productions, a Nashville, TN based music partnership.
I started out in the music business as a singer/songwriter. About 20 years ago, I went to a recording studio to try to make a 3 song demo of my music. I was so excited to be in a real studio! They had all this amazing gear and an engineer who seemed to know everyone in the music business. He kept telling me 'your songs really need that 'big screen' sound. Well, apparently that 'big screen' sound was achieved by spending as much time as possible - at $50 per hour - transferring my little midi-sequences into his 2" tape machine, and - well, actually I don't know what we did with all the rest of our money (except to
pay for his new 2" tape machine, which was apparently the object of the whole exercise anyway). Long story short - $3000 later, I ended up with - well,
nothing. Cause if you don't like a demo, you won't play it for anybody. I decided to buy the gear and learn how to make my own recordings. One thing led to another, and I ended up running my own studio on Nashville's music row. Until I was called into full time ministry and gave the whole business away.
Ironically, after giving up my business, most of my gear and ALL of my clients to go into full time ministry, God called me out of full time ministry into a studio partnership on Music Row. Since coming back to the 'row it seems like so many of the new clients who've responded to our ads were recording Christian music. Many of those clients needed to be able to share about their faith, receive counsel or to pray over their music. They were glad they found a producer who could also relate to them as a minister. At the same time, I found that many secular clients were initially put-off by my being a minister - (especially when I was still serving a church as a local pastor). It generally took several sessions before they would relax and stop worrying about what they said or how I might judge them or their music. As they put it, "you're not like most of the preachers I've met".
It is for this reason that I finally decided to advertise in a Christian publication with a different approach from our secular
website -
www.nashvillesongrecording.com . Our goal is not to try to 'tap into the Christian market' - but to let you know we're here, in case we're the kind of studio you've been looking for. I believe there is a ministry in doing good, honorable work for both Christian and non-Christian clients with
their best interests in mind (versus trying to sell them on a more expensive product because 'that's what we sell'). So we have tried our best to set up a business model that will accommodate virtually any need or budget - from simple guitar vocals to radio ready masters. You'll find when you talk to us that one of the first questions we'll ask is: "what are your goals, and what's your
budget?". You tell us what your goals are, and what you have to spend, and we'll do our best to make it happen.
But please be forewarned - our studio is not an 'exclusively' Christian studio. I believe Jesus "saved us to spend" us - not to keep us in our own little 'Christian bubble'. We treat everyone with respect, and we try to do what He did - to meet people where
they live, not where we live. So if our secular clients come in and want to have a beer, or say a cuss word now and then, we don't look at them cross-eyed. That may not be your cup of tea - but if you're looking for a place to come and record with some people who really love Jesus, and really know how to help you find
your sound - at the best possible price - I hope you'll check us out. I think you'll be glad you did.
in Christ,
Rick Dixon
